This post is basically me sharing what makes me happy right now. I'll do these periodically, seasonally...when I feel like it!
Even though it doesn't really feel like fall - err, autumn - on the Central Coast, I'm still excited about the season that inspires the most change.
I love school. Back to school night. Back to school shopping. New clothes, new supplies, new backpack, the whole deal. But since I'm no longer a student, graduate school is over...for now...and I'm spending my time standing in front of the classroom these days instead of sitting in a student desk.
And big surprise, I love that too. (I might love it more!)
Fall makes me think of learning, creating change, staying cozy and making time for reflection. It also has a whole array of accessories that I cannot live without. Boots, hats, scarves, layers - I need them. Again, you've probably noticed that in most things I do and enjoy, there is a balance between materialism and conscious exploration. I plan to incorporate this balance with regards to the actions I'm taking this season.
I'm focusing on fresh air, fresh starts, and fresh ideas.
*deep breath*
And it feels pretty good!

I'm currently designing a speech/debate and presentation skills course for teenagers. The academic goal is to help them feel more comfortable speaking in public and gain self confidence in the process. My personal goal, just like any class I create, is that I make sure they are engaged, entertained and learning. It's meant to be purposeful and fun.
So...how do I create that balance?
Because I have academic and professional experience speaking and facilitating, I will use that as the basis for the course. The technical meat-and-potatoes stuff. But I think it's really important to remember some of my other experiences: being a shy kid. I'll be sharing personal stories with them, reflecting on what I went through as a quiet, teased, low self-esteemed little girl. Then I'll tell them about how I changed it and how I'm STILL working on it as an adult. I'm going to be honest with them, because that's the only way the class will flourish as an authentic learning and growing environment.
We're going to talk about their strengths, qualities they admire in a speaker, qualities they find distracting in a speaker and so on. There will be TED talks, there will be YouTube videos and there will be a lot of personalizing. The first thing I'm going to do is ask them what they want to know and help them to find the answers. The course is a living system and it will change and grow just like the students and I will on this journey.
I'm extremely excited to have the opportunity to, among other things, develop courses for individuals of all ages. I'll be sharing more updates along the way since this is only the beginning and it ends in February.
Let me know if you enjoy this kind of content! I have plenty to share.

Welcome to my first blog post on Perception Wellness! This is going to be a space for reflection, sharing, and exploring - you guessed it - varying perceptions.
I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out who I am and what I'm good at, and many of those things either seemingly don't go together or haven't been put together before. I aim to change that. I like wellness, BEING well, LIVING well, and DOING well. I like yoga, meditation, knowledge, teaching and facilitating. But I also like shopping, makeup, dessert, napping, TV shows and 'frivolous' things. Can they go together? I say yes.
Consulting is the best way to describe what I do. I like to collaborate, assess, design, research and discuss. Sometimes that is with an individual, sometimes with a small group, and sometimes as online content.
The goal is to have a creative, happy, comfortable lifestyle, and to ensure that any clients or relationships that I have are of those same values.
I look forward to sharing more soon!
